About the image on this page
A young rockhound holds a nice specimen of Fluorescent Sodalite Syenite rescued from the waves on a Lake Michigan beach. This rock is a nondescript gray in normal light, but longwave ultraviolet light brings out the characteristic bright orange. Hunting for these in after sunset has become a popular hobby in many Great Lakes areas.
