Seam agate is mainly composed of chalcedony and can contained pockets of quartz crystals. Although agates may be found in various kinds of host rock, they are classically associated with volcanic rocks and but can also be found in be sedimentary and metamorphic rocks. The specimens pictured here are from Challis, Idaho.
